we may be cooler if we see more clouds today. notes mid 90's today. it will only get hotter. >> good morning. one problem is cleared, southbound 97 at aviation boulevard. that accident is now gone as a mcelway south on 97. problem-free as you make your way over towards the west side. 70 equally smooth. the j.f.x., a nice ride into town. a nice drive on the harrisburg expressway as well. 12 minutes on the west side outer loop. 10 minutes on 95 down towards 32 in howard county. 295 looks like a nice ride north and southbound at 175. this is harford road. moving without delay. the entire beltway delay-free at this time.

a quiet ride. no other incidents to report. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. back to you. >> thank you. the fire academy training program is suspended amid allegations of cheating. >> kim dacey is live downtown with the story brought to first by the i-team. >> the cheating incident occurred june 14 and involved as many as 20 cadets. the maryland institute which certifies paramedics conducted a probe based on a complaint filed with the agencies. the students were given confidential state testing materials prior to taking their exams. the fire chief has asked the fire marshal's office to launch an internal investigation, something he expects to be finished in two weeks. the chief said he personally is

disappointed. >> when something like this happens, it reflects on the whole agency. unfortunately, somebody decided to do something they should not and we are going to pay the price for that. >> the training facility is temporary closed. the instructors have been reassigned to field duty. they have agreed to retest those 20 cadets involved in the scandal. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. a girl so young her alleged victim laughed at her attempts to rob them stands trial for murder. she is accused of killing a person last august in fells point. police say guns dollars initially laughed off the attempt. debt is when she allegedly shot him in the head and wounded another man. the trial begins today.

police are searching for a suspect in a knife attack that left three people wounded in west baltimore. to expand and a juvenile or wounded along the glen ellen drive. this was around 9:00 p.m. last night. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. >> the investigation into the robbery of some convenience stores continues. the same suspects who robbed convene stores may be responsible for three others in glen bernie on sunday. >> the two in the early-morning hours seem to have some similarities in nature. that is what the detectives will try to ascertain, if there was a connection. >> the attacks left el least one clerk will did. anyone with information should call 911. >> students are mourning the loss of a music teacher. police say the wendell hairston was at the intersection of belle

and ferndale avenues saturday when a stolen car crashed into his van. mr. hairston taught music and led school bands in baltimore city schools. >> he was always nice, always had a smile on its face. always had something going on for these kids at the school. to think i know some of the close to me and that happens like at. >> police arrested one of the suspects in the stolen car. >> a police officer is recovering after his car skidded off a road. it started when the officer said he witnessed darin sympton dealing drugs. the officer tried to sympton stop to by let him on a high- speed chase. sympton ran a police cruiser. the chase ended with an arrest inside a clothing store. police have a person of interest

in custody in the shooting of two private security guards. one guard was shot in the eye and the other shot in the chest on mathews street last week. both security guards are listed in serious condition. >> two men pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to violate state election laws. julius henson and paul schurick are accused of the scheme but by sending out electronic ca lls on election night. >> we believe the facts will not support those allegations. >> the judge set a trial date for september. >> proposal to cut baltimore's property tax rate in half will have a hearing. the tax rate is keeping potential residents out and squeezing potential ones drive. the bill will allow voters to

decide if their tax rate would be cut by 50%. this faces an uphill battle among many council members. talk of rolling back another unpopular tax -- the bottle tax. it has raised about $5 million. that is less than what is expected. businesses claim it is costing them in jobs. belinda conaway said it is time to be repealed. >> they are very competitive at the pepsi plant with other plants in the mid atlantic area. this beverage tax has caused them to lose an edge and a portion of the plant has been shut down. >> the budget deficit went to about $65 million this year. we are climbing our way out of the recession and revenues from the bottle tax helped us. >> there are no proposals on how to replace the lot if the beverage tax is repealed. that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. do you think baltimore city should repeal its newly adopted bottle tax?

the senate. the president will probably veto it anyway. john boehner called the veto threat unfortunate. he said if we're going to raise the debt ceiling, the white house must be willing to demonstrate more courage then we have seen. both sides are posturing. there is optimism. president obama continued negotiating with republican leaders. >> any progress? >> this comes as senate leaders are crafting a fallback measure to increase the nation's credit limit. a plan both houses of congress are said to consider promising. harry reid said the senate will meet every day including weekends until the debt issue is resolved. live in washington, this is kate amara reporting. >> 6:09. 77 degrees on tv hill.

>> welcome back. 6:13. it is a steamy 84 degrees downtown. this is a live look over downtown. we'll start with some haze in the sky. it is cooler elsewhere across the city. 77 at the airport. near new york city, it is around 76. much former as who looked up towards the west. 75, kansas city. 82 in dallas. they will see temperatures in the upper 90's and possibly past 100 again. this heat wave is heading our way. right now it is being held back by a cold front. 60's right now. this cold front will not bring a

major relief in temperatures. it will prevent the worst of the heat from coming just yet. that heat will be shifting eastbound. places in texas and kansas, it will be awhile before they see any kind of relief. the cold front is causing some showers to the western tier of the state. thunderstorms in the west virginia as well. this will steer away our latest tropical system. the wind is about 50 miles per hour. this will kickoff to the north and east. maybe some rip currents possible by theotheouter banks end of the week. it is not expected to have much effect on the u.s. in terms of rain and wind. pretty dry everywhere else. the maybe some thunderstorms

state testing materials prior to taking their exams. a cheating scandal has forced the suspension of the ems training program at that facility. >> when something like this happens, it reflects on the whole agency. unfortunately, somebody decided to do something they should not and we are going to pay the price for that. >> the cheating allegedly took place june 14. they conducted a probe based on a complaint filed at the agency. the chief compliance agency concluded the students did possess confidential state testing materials prior to the assessment of their motor skills learned in class. the chief has asked the fire marshal's office to launch an internal investigation.

her trial begins today. two man with close ties to bob ehrlich's campaigned pleaded not guilty. paul schurick and julius henson are accused of a scheme of keeping african-american voters held by setting up electronic calls on election night saying .h there is talk of repealing the bottle tax. it was put into place a year ago and has raised about $5 million. that is less than what has expected. this is claim it is costing them jobs and sales. belinda conaway said it is time for it to be repealed. if it is repealed, no word on how to replace the lost in revenue. >> that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. >> this morning we asked -- do you think baltimore city should
